JP and Mad Hungarian Racing win the 2016 NASA 944 SPEC National Championship at Buttonwillow Raceway Park!
On a sunny October Sunday, JP, starting on the front row in P2, on his birthday no less, took advantage of a first lap, first-turn pass around the outside of pole sitter, Charles Sharp, to take the lead for the NASA Western States National Championship 944 SPEC Championship race.
JP, driving the #84 Porsche 924S, remained in the lead for the entirety of the race, stretching his lead to over 10 seconds by the time the checkered flag flew. In only his 2nd year at the NASA national championships, winning the race was a definite step forward after 2015's 4th place finish at Laguna Seca.
JP credits the win to a well prepared car, a fantastic crew chief in Shari Molnar, tire support from Bob Schaeffer at Sierra Tire in Las Vegas, NV, and expert maintenance by Stuttgart Southwest in Tempe, AZ. For JP, it was the perfect birthday present!
2017 promises to be another exciting year with races planned in AZ and CA, culminating in defending his title at the championship race to be held in October at Thunderhill Raceway. Stay tuned for details!
